eUICC SIM cards

At Simhuis, we are increasingly using eUICC SIM cards. This gives us the ability to install multiple profiles on the SIM cards.

But what exactly are the differences between the SIM cards?

eSIM TECHNOLOGY

A dynamic, programmable chip in a single unit. You can use the Simhuis eSIM system as a single global connectivity provider. One monthly invoice for the global use of services delivered by a portal with a single dashboard. On-demand services can be programmed remotely with a single, complicated eSIM. This is due to the ready-to-use, seamless global deployment of programs using a single eSIM.

eSIM/eUICC

Mobile smart devices from Internet of Things providers often come with a standard SIM card that allows them to use roaming functions anywhere. A GSMA-standards-based eUICC or "eSIM" is the next generation SIM. This allows the login credentials of a mobile network operator in a specific country or region to be programmed remotely onto a smart device. This means that data must start and end on the mobile provider's home network, resulting in significant data latency and a poor user experience. Using an eSIM card makes accessing data faster and with lower latency. This results in a better overall user experience.

eSIM VS. MULTI-IMSI

Before the standard eSIM format emerged, multi-IMSI SIM cards were created to meet the need for a local IMSI. This was necessary because multi-IMSI SIM cards would not use industry-standard IMSIs. There are various problems with these cards, including issues with IMSI selection methods and data costs when used while traveling. The standards-based eSIM offers positive IMSI profile selection logic, an unlimited range of operator profiles, and robust security measures on both removable and embedded chips.

eSIM VS. ROAMING-ONLY SOLUTIONS

It is essential to ensure that mobile connectivity solutions for the IoT are future-proof. The number of roaming partnerships a mobile operator has determines the usability of using a standard SIM card with only one set of login credentials.

A roaming-only SIM card, for example, would not be practical for commercial or regulatory purposes where roaming charges with additional sets of operator credentials are required or where local regulations prohibit permanent roaming.

eSIMs eliminate the need for expensive roaming and are future-proof. By adding a local or regional eSIM profile, regulatory issues and the need to use another SIM card while traveling are eliminated. Furthermore, an eSIM device can be detected over the air and added to a local or regional eSIM profile. Remotely configuring a mobile phone via the internet with a secure SIM card ensures maximum security and access to the necessary mobile technologies.

eSIM IS NOT an embedded SIM. eSIM is sometimes referred to as an embedded SIM (MFF2). Also known as a chip SIM. eUICC eSIMs are available in all form factors: 2FF (Mini), 3FF (Micro), 4FF (Nano), and MFF2 (soldered chip SIMs). MULTI-IMSI IS NOT THE SAME AS AN eSIM. With a multi-IMSI SIM, multiple carrier profiles are loaded onto the SIM during manufacturing. You cannot add new carriers afterwards. We at Simhuis primarily supply eSIMs. The reason is that if you wish to switch to another supplier, this is possible and it avoids significant costs (including during transport of your device or machine if it travels the world). We and our suppliers will always cooperate so that you do not have to replace a physical SIM card in your device. We provide more information about the different technologies at the bottom of this page.
