Is it an advantage to have a fixed IP address on your SIM card?

Internet connectivity facilitates the exchange of information. To establish a connection, the sender and the receiver need an IP address. The advantage of an M2M or IoT SIM card with a fixed IP address is that it supports two-way communication (two-way data traffic).

Advantages of a fixed IP address

• Customizable data bundles starting from 1MB with a fixed IP address
• LTE/4G is at least 3 times faster than ADSL.
• High availability in the event of connection failure.
• Affordable, A small monthly or annual fee for public fixed IP addresses (starting from €5.00 per IPv4 possible).
• Fast delivery, SIM cards are in stock and available for delivery within 24 hours.
• Internet backup for every store and/or office.

Fixed public IP address

Every device connected to the internet receives a unique address called an IP address. This name is visible to the user and is used to trace all internet activity back to them. Due to the increased number of devices on the internet, it is almost impossible to assign a unique address to every device. Because dynamic IP addresses change constantly, many providers issue them. This makes it difficult to use these internet addresses, as they change continuously. Moreover, most dynamic IP addresses come from a large number of providers and are rarely used. Static IP addresses allow users access to devices from the outside, but dynamic IP addresses are not disadvantageous. They can be easily changed and are often more cost-effective. However, it is currently unknown which IP address belongs to which device or when it was last changed. Simhuis offers you the option to provide a subscription with a fixed IPv4 public IP address.

Fixed Public IP Address A fixed IP address is an IP address assigned to a device with properties that never change. If the fixed IP address is public, anyone with an internet connection can access it remotely. This brings enormous benefits. It makes it possible to manage or register devices using software such as firewalls or remote workstations. At the same time, IP addresses on public networks also pose security risks! Each device must be secured individually and is easier to hack than with a fixed private IP address.

Vast private IP address

Fixed private IP addresses, just like public IP addresses, have the characteristic of remaining the same and can therefore be linked to the device. The biggest difference compared to a private IP address is the approach. Everyone has access to the public IP address via the internet, whereas the private IP address has a VPN tunnel. This means that all IP addresses are located within the VPN and are therefore not accessible from the outside. Users must be logged in to the VPN before they can connect to the IP address. The advantage of this extra security is that devices do not need to be secured individually and there is much less risk of external attacks.

Simhuis also provides a fixed "private" IP address.
